Reader Question:

Try Reporting 99070 for Catheter

Question: Is there any code to report for the catheter separately from the urodynamics study?

Wisconsin Subscriber Answer: Most payers will tell you that if the procedures require the catheter, the catheter is included as part of the procedure cost. The Medicare resource-based relative value scale (RBRVS) payment system accounts for the cost of supplies as part of the payment.

However, some non-Medicare payers might consider reimbursing the catheter. You can try reporting 99070 (Supplies and materials [except spectacles], provided by the physician over and above those usually included with the office visit or other services rendered [list drugs, trays, supplies, or materials provided]). Or if you know the type of catheter, you can check for its HCPCS code listing (alpha-numeric codes).
