READER QUESTION ~ Strike These Modifiers When Reporting 82270

Question: Because Medicare has dropped G0107 and we-re now supposed to use 82270, should we add a modifier to it such as GA?

Connecticut Subscriber Answer: Medicare covers this test once a year, so you should have no reason to report modifier GA (Waiver of liability statement on file) -- unless you think another physician tested your patient during the year.

Keep in mind: When you report 82270 (Blood, occult, by peroxidase activity [e.g., guaiac], qualitative; feces, consecutive collected specimens with single determination, for colorectal neoplasm screening [i.e., patient was provided three cards or single triple card for consecutive collection]), you do not also need modifier QW (CLIA-waived test).
