Reader Question:

CPT Search May End With Unlisted-Procedure Code

Question: I-m looking for a CPT code to represent a vaginal manipulation of pregnant, retroverted uterus under anesthesia. What code should I use? Kentucky Subscriber Answer: If your ob-gyn did not do this procedure to turn the baby, you should use unlisted-procedure code 59899 (Unlisted procedure, maternity care and delivery). Watch out: If the ob-gyn did perform this procedure to turn the baby, you-ll use a different code. When the physician manipulates the position of the fetus, the procedure is referred to as external cephalic version, and the code for that is 59412 (External cephalic version, with or without tocolysis).
