Highlight These Nonsurgical SUI Treatment Coding Options

Does training involve biofeedback? Look to this procedure code.Before turning to surgical treatments for stress urinary incontinence (SUI), ob-gyns generally attempt to treat the condition with nonsurgical methods. These treatments provide their own coding dilemmas.One of the most common nonsurgical treatments for incontinence is to educate the patient to rehabilitate her pelvic floor muscles. A common exercise is Kegels, which increase the pelvic floor's muscle volume and develop stronger reflex contractions following a quick rise in intra-abdominal pressure - the precipitating factor in stress incontinence. Kegel instruction may take more than a brief verbal explanation or an educational pamphlet.
