Clarification

The July 2004 Ob-Gyn Coding Alert article "Solutions to Your Top-5 Multiple Gestation Coding Questions" implied that you might perform a detailed ultrasound (76811, Ultrasound, pregnant uterus, real time with image documentation, fetal and maternal evaluation plus detailed fetal anatomic examination, transabdominal approach; single or first gestation; and +76812, ... each additional gestation [list separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) for a 12-week-old fetus. In fact, ob-gyns generally reserve this procedure until the fetus is 14 to 18 weeks in gestation.
