Ob-Gyn Coding Alert

CCI Brief:

No Changes of Note for Ob/Gyns

CCI 8.1, the latest version of CMS' Correct Coding Initiative, went into effect on April 1, 2002. Although the edits contain several references to ob/gyn codes, none of the edits are surprising or seriously should impact coding and reimbursement. The edits bundle existing anesthesia codes into the new ob/gyn codes released in 2002, which is not surprising because ob/gyns are never reimbursed for anesthesia under Medicare rules. (CPT anesthesia codes [00100-01999] are reimbursable only to anesthesiologists.)

As part of our ongoing effort to keep subscribers up-to-date regarding the latest coding changes, we report on CCI quarterly changes as soon as they occur. The next version of CCI (8.2) will take effect on July 1, 2002. Ob-Gyn Coding Alert will inform readers of any changes that impact their specialty.
