Q: Is a patient considered incontinent if the only time incontinence occurs is when the patient coughs?

A: If incontinence occurs in any situation - even stress incontinence occurring only when the patient coughs - you must mark the patient incontinent in M0520, instructed the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in questions and answers from the 2003 OASIS Educators Conference.
