OASIS Alert

Reader Question:

Must Paperwork Accumulate Forever?

Q: How long do home health agencies need to keep OASIS transmission reports? I know they should be kept at least until after the next survey, since a surveyor may want to see them, but do you know of any reason for keeping them beyond that?

A: There is no requirement for home health agencies to keep OASIS validation reports, says a spokesperson for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. However, HHAs do often find it helpful to refer back to the reports. "We recommend that the agencies keep the reports at least 12 months in case there are concerns with the annual OBQI report," the spokesperson tells Eli.
