Answer: The proposed ICD-10 changes for post procedure haemorrhage and hematoma will allow you to separately report these two conditions.

In October this year, you will see two new codes for postprocedure hematoma:

  • G9761, Postprocedural hematoma of a nervous system organ or structure following a nervous system procedure
  • G9762, Postprocedural hematoma of a nervous system organ or structure following other procedure

The descriptors of codes G9751 (Postprocedural hemorrhage and hematoma of a nervous system organ or structure following a nervous system procedure) and G9752 (Postprocedural hemorrhage and hematoma of a nervous system organ or structure following other procedure) will be revised to ‘postprocedural hemorrhage of a nervous system organ or structure following a nervous system procedure’ ‘postprocedural hemorrhage of a nervous system organ or structure following other procedure,’ respectively. This makes G9751 and G9752 specific for postprocedure haemorrhage.
