62380 Allows Modifier 50
Question: Can we submit one unit of the new CPT® code 62380 for a bilateral endoscopic decompression of spinal cord? New Jersey Subscriber Answer: The new code 62380 (Endoscopic decompression of spinal cord, nerve root[s], including laminotomy, partial facetectomy, foraminotomy, discectomy and/or excision of herniated intervertebral disc, 1 interspace, lumbar) for endoscopic spinal decompression applies to one level in the vertebral column and to one side. For bilateral procedures, you submit a single unit of 62380 and append modifier 50 (Bilateral procedure) to imply that your surgeon did the procedure on both sides. Check with your payers: For bilateral endoscopic spinal cord decompression, you either append modifier 50 or submit RT, LT depending upon your payer preferences.
