Question: We need help for the right code for the harvest of a sural nerve graft which was anastomosed to the nerve bundle extended towards the proximal urethra. Two doctors were involved in the case, one was our neurosurgeon and one was a general surgeon who did the prostatectomy.
Answer: While there is a series of codes describing neurorrhaphy including harvest of nerve graft (64885-64911), these codes apply to other body regions including the head, neck, arm, hand, leg and foot. In this circumstance, the unlisted code 64999 (Unlisted procedure, nervous system) would be appropriate.
