NCCI Bundles Steroid Injection/Hemilaminotomy

Question: The surgeon performed an L4-5 hemilaminotomy and diskectomy with an epidural steroid injection. May I report the injection separately?

Answer: No, you cannot be reimbursed separately for the epidural injection. The National Correct Coding Initiative, version 10.1, bundles 62311 (Injection, single [not via indwelling catheter], not including neurolytic substances, with or without contrast [for either localization or epidurography], of diagnostic or therapeutic substance[s] [including anesthetic, antispasmodic, opioid, steroid, other solution], epidural or subarachnoid; lumbar, sacral [caudal]) to many laminectomy and spinal procedures in the 62263-63746 range, including those for hemilaminotomy.
