Neurosurgery Coding Alert

Reader Question:

Look to This ICD-10 Code for Ventricular Cyst

Question: How do you report the diagnosis of ventricular cyst?

New York Subscriber

Answer:  For cerebral cysts, you should report G93.0 (Cerebral cysts). This code applies to ventricular cysts, arachnoid cysts, porencephalic cysts, porencephaly, and acquired pseudoporencephaly.

Caution: Make sure you don’t mix up G93.0 with codes Q04.6 (Congenital cerebral cysts) and Q04.8 (Other specified congenital malformations of brain), which apply to congenital disorders.

Acquired periventricular cysts in a newborn: Also, you would submit code P91.1 (Acquired periventricular cysts of newborn) for acquired periventricular cysts in a newborn.
