Reader Questions:

OK to Bill Multiple EMG With Chemodenervation

Question: Can we bill multiple units for the EMG guidance with chemodenervation (95874)? Texas Subscriber Answer: Typically you can report multiple guidance codes. Some experts suggest reporting one guidance code per injection code. Use 64612-64614 (Chemodenervation of muscle[s] ...) for the injection. For the EMG guidance report, use +95874 (Needle electromyography for guidance in conjunction with chemodenervation [list separately in addition to code for primary procedure]). CPT includes several notes to help you report 95874 correctly: - use 95874 with 64612-64614 - do not report 95874 with +95873 (Electrical stimulation for guidance in conjunction with chemodenervation [list separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) - do not report 95874 with 95860-95870 (Needle electromyography). Remember: You can only use one injection code per region (face, limbs, etc.), but some policies might stipulate to only report one EMG per date regardless of the number of sites. Ask the carrier before submitting your claim, and be sure to follow the correct guidelines.
