Multiple-Region Myelographies Mean Using These Codes

Question: How do I report myelography? And does this change if we are reporting more than one myelography for a patient during a single encounter?

Oklahoma Subscriber

Answer: This will depend on how many myelographies the provider performs during the encounter. For myelography in two or more regions, you’ll report 72270 (Myelography, 2 or more regions (eg, lumbar/thoracic, cervical/thoracic, lumbar/ cervical, lumbar/thoracic/cervical), radiological supervision and interpretation).

For single-region myelographies, choose from the following codes, as appropriate:

  • 72240 (… cervical, radiological supervision and interpretation)
  • 72255 (… thoracic, radiological supervision and interpretation)
  • 72265 (… lumbosacral, radiological supervision and interpretation).
