Question:
Can we bill 95900 and 95903 together for a patient when our physician does nerve conduction on a single day? Alaska Subscriber
Answer:
CPT® codes 95900 (
Nerve conduction, amplitude and latency/velocity study, each nerve; motor, without F-wave study) and 95903 (
Nerve conduction, amplitude and latency/velocity study, each nerve; motor, with F-wave study) may be billed together for the same patient on the same day of service when multiple nerves are tested, some with and some without F waves, because in that case they describe two distinct and independent diagnostic tests provided on the same day.
However, CPT® codes 95900 and 95903 cannot be billed together for performing the motor nerve conduction studies on the same nerve on a given patient on a given day.
However, it is appropriate to report modifier -59 (Distinct procedural service) with the 95900 code when the motor nerve conduction studies were performed on different nerves / nerve branches and billing both 95900 and 95903 to indicate separate and distinct procedures on the same patient on the same day.
