Reader Question:

Turn to 95923 for Galvanic Skin Potential

Question: What is the proper code to report galvanic skin potential testing?

Pennsylvania Subscriber

Answer: The appropriate code for galvanic skin response is 95923 (Testing of autonomic nervous system function; sudomotor, including one or more of the following: quantitative sudomotor axon reflex test [QSART], silastic sweat imprint, thermoregulatory sweat test, and changes in sympathetic skin potential).

You may bill only a single unit of 95923 regardless of the number of limbs the neurologist tests. But several payers, including some Medicare carriers, consider autonomic testing to be investigational and may not reimburse appropriately. Ask your individual payer for its policy.
