Intraoperative Monitoring With 95822

Question: We perform EEG monitoring for neurosurgical procedures such as the clipping of some intracranial aneurysms. Can we bill for intraoperative monitoring and EEG monitoring during the same session?

Answer: Yes. In CPT 2001, the text following the description of 95920 (intraoperative neurophysiology testing, per hour [list separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) has been changed to indicate the use of 95920 in conjunction with 95822 (electroencephalogram [EEG]; sleep only). Note: For extended EEG monitoring, see 95812, 95813).

Other codes that may be reported in conjunction with intraoperative monitoring code 95920 are 92585, 95860, 95861, 95867, 95868, 95900, 95904, 95925, 95926, 95927, 95930, 95933, 95934, 95936 and 95937.
