Precise Definition of Status Migrainosus

The International Society for Headache describes Status Migrainosus as a "debilitating migraine attack lasting for more than 72 hours." The diagnosis is based upon the history that confirms the present attack in a patient who has had similar previous attacks. The patient typically complains of a severe headache that has not been remitting for the past more than 72 hours. The headache cannot be attributed to another disorder on investigations. You may disregard the interruption in sleep and any short-lasting relief due to medications.
