Clarification:

Can't Call Chemodenervation 'Permanent'

In the September issue of Neurology Coding Alert, an article titled -5 Tips Give You the Lowdown on Lumbar Injections- contrasted nerve blocks with nerve destruction by stating that destruction was permanent. It read, -Unlike nerve blocks, nerve destruction--also known as denervation--permanently -kills- the nerve.-

The permanent nature of destruction may be true in some patients, but Neurology Coding Alert would also like to point out that nerves are capable of regrowing, and therefore denervation is not always a permanent measure. Thank you to Laurie Castillo, CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P, owner of Castillo Consulting in Manassas, Va., for clarifying this matter.
