A Neurobehavioral Exam Refresher

Neurobehavioral exam is a battery of tests that include a series of questions or directives to perform a set of actions. These help a clinician to assess the patient's mental state and responsiveness. Your physician may administer various tests to evaluate speech/language, attention, memory, and visual/spatial awareness to patients who report for altered mental states, confusion, impaired cognition, or memory problems which may be due to conditions like brain injury, stroke, or conditions like the Alzheimer's disease. If your clinician's note makes a mention of the neurobehavioral exam, you opt to report code 96116.
