The OIG zeroes in on HHS struggles with health IT, prescription drugs, and more.
Many of the HHS Office of Inspector General’s (OIG’s) target items in its recently released Compendium of Unimplemented Recommendations align with its “Top Management & Performance Challenges.” Here are the OIG’s top challenges facing HHS compiled for 2016 and included in the May 2017 Compendium:
- Safeguard the integrity of Medicare Part A and Part B.
- Strengthen and better administer Medicaid.
- Bolster and improve the safe and secure exchange of health information and technology.
- Improve the financial and administrative infrastructures and management at HHS.
- Encourage the proper oversight and distribution of HHS grants supporting public health and services.
- Ensure the appropriate use of prescription drugs under Medicaid and Medicare Part D and reduce abuse of these drugs.
- Protect and secure the quality of care of the most vulnerable patients.
- Manage the health insurance marketplaces.
- Guide delivery system reform and improve Medicare Advantage and other new health system models.
- Supervise and advocate for the safety of food, drugs, and medical devices.
