Responsibilities are shifting at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. A Feb. 20 Federal Register notice details organizational changes resulting from the creation of a new Office of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Standards.
As the name suggests, the new office will be responsible for HIPAA enforcement. HIPAA had been the purview of the Office of Operations Management.
In other Register notices, CMS asked for comments on proposed extensions and/or modifications to paperwork involving the following:
• the Medicaid drug rebate program;
• Social Security district office reports of problems with state buy-ins;
• beneficiary statements in Canadian travel claims for emergency and foreign hospital services;
• skilled nursing facilities’ records of physician certifications of need for care, duration of stay and plans for home care;
• use of OASIS as part of conditions of participation for home health agencies.
