The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said in an Oct. 29 transmittal (CR 3551) that the Common Working File will implement a new edit on April 1, 2005, to check for duplicate claims for referred clinical diagnostic laboratory and purchased diagnostic services that physicians or suppliers submit to more than one carrier.

In other recent transmittals, CMS:

  • instructs Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carriers (DMERCs) to use the 2004 MMA Payment Limits Pricing File when pricing the drug, Treprostinil, starting Nov. 29 (CR 3533);

  • modifies the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) to ensure the Common Working File (CWF) initiated adjustments cannot be returned to the provider (CR 3330);

  • provides instructions to FIs regarding the audit of hospitals that are part of a Medicare GME affiliated group in relation to section 422 of P.L. 108-173 (CR 3558).
