Pharmas Offer Version of Together Rx To Younger Folks

Ten major drug companies are collaborating on a new card they say will provide discounts ranging from 25 to 40 percent on 275 brand-name drugs, as well as a "wide range" of generic medications.

The Together Rx Access card will be available to Americans who are not eligible for Medicare, lack prescription drug coverage, and meet income limits that start at $30,000 for singles and move up in $10,000 increments.

"I think this certainly supplants and probably replaces the need for lower-income Americans to go to Canada to get their drugs," Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said at the Jan. 11 unveiling. All but three companies sponsoring the card also developed a similar Together Rx discount card for Medicare beneficiaries in 2002.
