Demo On Tap For Inhalation Therapy

CMS says program open to providers, doctors, therapy companies.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is developing a demonstration program for care management and care coordination for inhalation therapy patients.

The program will involve physicians, suppliers and other health professionals in determining whether such services have a positive impact on outcomes and reduce overall Medicare spending, the agency says.

The demo will seek to obtain the most effective care for Medicare beneficiaries with severe or complex respiratory conditions. It will include patients who need both nebulizer treatments and drugs dispensed via metered dose inhalers, which will be covered under the new Medicare drug benefit.

Demo Open To Several Groups The program could involve additional payments to providers, physicians and inhalation therapy companies, according to CMS.
