MEDICAID:

Medicaid Commission Idea Has GOP Backers In House

Republicans push for removal of cuts, program study.

Forty-four of his GOP colleagues are urging House Budget Committee chair Jim Nussle (IA) to remove Medicaid cuts from the chamber's budget resolution.

"We are concerned that the inclusion of up to $20 billion in reductions from the projected rate of growth in the Medicaid program will negatively impact people who depend on the program and the providers who deliver health care to them, while not putting us on the path to comprehensive reform and improvement that the program needs," the Republican representatives say in an April 13 letter organized by New Mexico's Heather Wilson.

Rather than cutting $20 billion from Medicaid, Wilson and company want the House to join the Senate in calling for a commission to study the program and
recommend reforms.
