Massachusetts’ health department has its ducks in a row when it comes to restricting hospital payments for outpatient services provided during inpatient stays.
So says the HHS Office of Inspector General in a recent audit report. According to the watchdog agency, the Bay State’s Division of Medical Assistance has the right procedures in place to block off duplicate Medicaid payments for outpatient services provided to inpatients, as state regulations require. The OIG found virtually no duplicate payments in its analysis of non-physician services provided between 1999 and 2001.
The report is titled “Review of Massachusetts Medicaid Payments For Outpatient Non-Physician Services Rendered From October 1, 1999 Through March 31, 2001 During An Inpatient Stay” (A-01-02-00012). To see it, go to http://oig.hhs.gov/oas/reports/region1/10200012.pdf.
