With all the Quality Payment Program (QPP) regulatory rollbacks to accommodate COVID-19, you may be wondering whether you meet Alternative Payment Model (APM) thresholds or need to submit under the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for Performance Year (PY) 2021. The QPP now offers a quick-start guide and decision tree to help you determine your status. Caution: Qualifying APM Participant (QP) thresholds are set to increase on Jan. 1, 2021. “If you were a QP for the 2020 performance year, you may not necessarily receive QP status for the 2021 performance year,” relates the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in an alert. However, if your status is impacted in 2021 by the threshold change, you may need to switch to MIPS — even if you were a QP in previous cycles, CMS indicates. To help providers determine where they fit in, CMS offers a plethora of advice on its QPP website. The guidance offers insight on QP status and snapshots as well as MIPS eligibility and measures management. Both the 2021 QP Quick Start Guide and the 2021 MIPS Eligibility Decision Tree are in the QPP resource library at https://qpp.cms.gov/about/resource-library.
