As the 2022 reporting year for the Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program comes to close, you should be compiling your documentation before the Sept. 13 deadline. Heads up: Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) are reminding providers and suppliers that redeterminations for the CERT report year (RY) 2022 are due soon. “The deadline for redetermination submission is September 13, to be considered for the CERT RY,” says First Coast Service Options (FCSO) in a web update. The Part B MAC “requests redeterminations be submitted by September 6, to allow time for processing,” the announcement cautions.
Nuts and bolts: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) devised the CERT program to investigate the claims processing accuracy of the MACs. By collecting random samplings of claims across the various jurisdictions, CMS is able to judge how each MAC is doing and correct billing errors accordingly. Tip: If you plan on submitting a CERT redetermination, check with your MAC for any specific documentation and filing requirements. “A favorable redetermination decision restores recouped money and lowers the provider/supplier error rate,” reminds Part B MAC Novitas Solutions.
