If you’re wondering why your Medicare claims aren’t getting processed properly, it could be the font you’re using on the paper form, suggests one Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). Details: When you’re submitting a CMS-1500 original form, specific rules apply that ensure your claims are processed in a timely manner, advised Part B MAC NGS Medicare in an Aug. 8 news alert. For example, you should “use Courier New font for computer-generated claims” and never mix fonts, NGS says. The MAC also reminds providers to avoid using italics, bold, or script, too.
Tip: Before you type out that form, check with the MAC in your jurisdiction for any specific requirement. Find the NGS article at >www.ngsmedicare.com/web/ngs/news-article-details?selectedArticleId=9625425&lob=96664&state=97057&rgion=93623.
