Sidestep Paper Claim Delays With MAC Insight

If you’re wondering why your Medicare claims aren’t getting processed properly, it could be the font you’re using on the paper form, suggests one Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC).

Details: When you’re submitting a CMS-1500 original form, specific rules apply that ensure your claims are processed in a timely manner, advised Part B MAC NGS Medicare in an Aug. 8 news alert. For example, you should “use Courier New font for computer-generated claims” and never mix fonts, NGS says. The MAC also reminds providers to avoid using italics, bold, or script, too.

Tip: Before you type out that form, check with the MAC in your jurisdiction for any specific requirement. Find the NGS article at >www.ngsmedicare.com/web/ngs/news-article-details?selectedArticleId=9625425&lob=96664&state=97057&rgion=93623.
