The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) finally has a new leader at its helm. Now: On March 18, the Senate confirmed Xavier Becerra as the 25th HHS Secretary. The vote ran along party lines, 50 to 49 with Sen. Suzanne Collins (R) of Maine voting with the Democrats. Becerra hails from California, where he was the Attorney General. “Throughout his career, the Secretary has made it his priority to ensure that Americans have access to the affordable healthcare they need to survive and thrive,” notes an HHS release following his swearing in. “As Secretary, he will focus on ensuring that all Americans have health security and access to health care.”
