If your practice received a COVID-19 Accelerated and Advance Payment (CAAP) from Medicare, know that the final recoupment notices are in process. That’s the reminder from Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Palmetto GBA, in an update on CAAP balances. “Depending on when a provider’s CAAP was issued, 100 percent recoupment may begin as early as mid-September 2022, and any outstanding CAAP balances will start the demand process to recover the debt(s),” the Part B MAC warns.
The MACs began the recoupment process for COVID-inspired CAAPs in March 2021, and providers have been “apprised” of their outstanding CAAP balances via their repayment account statements, which list all funds under recoupment, Palmetto reminds. Remember, you have 15 days from when you receive the demand letter to submit a rebuttal to your MAC. Review the Nov. 23 Palmetto GBA update at www.palmettogba.com/palmetto/jjb.nsf/DID/N578DH2DAN#ls.
