Medicare Compliance & Reimbursement

Industry Notes:

Paper Checks Go Away for Medicare Enrollment Refunds

You can stop looking in your mailbox for that Medicare Enrollment application fee refund — because the feds are now sending them digitally.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will issue fee refunds via electronic fund transfer from now on — instead of paper checks, mentions Part B MAC NGS Medicare in a July 1 post.

“We will request new information if you need an application fee refund for your CMS-855A, CMS-855B, CMS-855S, or CMS-20134 submitted via an automated clearinghouse,” NGS adds.

Here’s a quick forms’ breakdown and the impacted Medicare providers or suppliers:

  • CMS-855A: Institutional providers
  • CMS-855B: Clinics and group practices
  • CMS-855S: Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Suppliers
  • CMS-20134: Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) Suppliers

Heads up: To ensure that you receive your full refund in a timely manner, follow the directions closely on the EFT form and include the proper account information, NGS advises.
