If you’ve been waiting to see your Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) final scores for the 2021 performance year, you’re in luck. The data is now available to review during the preview period, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) indicated in an alert. Background: MIPS providers, virtual groups, and Alternative Payment Model (APM) entities can login to their accounts via the Quality Payment Program (QPP) portal and check out their final 2021 MIPS scores. But the timeline is short as the “MIPS Final Score Preview period is [only] available until final performance feedback, including payment adjustments, is released in August 2022,” CMS warns CMS is offering clinicians this new phase of review to encourage transparency and give providers more feedback before their 2023 MIPS payment adjustments are determined. “We want to make sure your final scores are as accurate as possible and that we identify any potential issues before we calculate payment adjustments,” the agency says. Performance feedback will be available after this preview period in August and then clinicians will have 60 days after the release of their payment adjustment information to perform a Targeted Review, the QPP website suggests.
