You’re not the only one worried about the 4.5 percent decrease to the conversion factor (CF) that CMS outlined in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) final rule for calendar year (CY) 2023. Update: In a Dec. 8 letter to Congress, more than 100 medical groups asked legislators to stave off the impending Medicare payment cuts slated to begin on Jan. 1.
“On behalf of the American Medical Association (AMA) and the undersigned state medical associations representing hundreds of thousands of physicians and the patients they serve, we strongly urge Congressional action to prevent the entire 4.5% reduction to Medicare payment rates from being implemented on January 1, 2023,” the letter said. “This desperately needed relief will help provide crucial short-term financial stability for practices until permanent, bipartisan payment reforms are enacted.” The combination of COVID stress, rising inflation rates, and increased burdens and workloads are listed as top concerns for physicians — and reasons for Congress to act now.
