In an effort to help clinicians combatting COVID-19, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has decided to reopen the previously closed Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) extreme and uncontrollable circumstances (EUC) application for performance year 2020, a CMS alert says.

Individual MIPS-eligible clinicians, groups, virtual groups, and Alternative Payment Model (APM) Entities can now submit MIPS EUC applications through March 31, 2021 at 8 p.m. ET.

“Please note that applications received between now and March 31, 2021 won’t override previously submitted data for individuals, groups and virtual groups,” the agency notes.
