If your Medicare beneficiaries are calling about extra COVID shots, the feds are authorizing a third booster for specific patients. Details: In order to stay ahead of the virus, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have opted to “expand eligibility for an additional booster shot to the most vulnerable, highest-risk Americans,” says the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in a release on the update. Immunocompromised patients and people over 50 are now eligible for a third COVID-19 booster, says HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra in the release. “This is especially important for the elderly and those with serious underlying medical conditions in these populations. They are the people most likely to need this additional dose, and they can go get one as soon as they’re eligible. This action can help prevent hospitalizations and save lives.”
