The government wants pharmacists to be part of the frontline in the battle against the opioid epidemic outlined in President Trump's Public Health Emergency declaration last month. The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion "has partnered with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) to offer free continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit for Pathways to Safer Opioid Use, our interactive training on the safe use of opioids to manage chronic pain," a Nov. 27 release from ODPHP said. This educational opportunity ties in with other federal efforts addressed in the National Action Plan for Adverse Drug Event Prevention - also known as the ADE Action Plan - which "recommends that federalagencies explore ways to improve uptake of evidence-based strategies for safe opioid prescribing, including training various health care providers," reported the agency.
