FDA Gets New Commissioner

Plus: Sidestep Medicare exclusion with new tutorial.

After months with an array of acting commissioners, the feds confirmed a new Food & Drug Administration (FDA) head.

Last month, Dr. Stephen M. Hahn, was sworn in as FDA commissioner. Trained as an oncologist, Dr. Hahn was previously chief medical executive (CME) at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MD Anderson), indicates the FDA.

The FDA has had a tough year amidst conflict over the vaping epidemic and e-cigarette regulation, food safety issues, and medical device hacking.

Hahn is the third commissioner in less than a year at FDA after Scott Gottlieb left last April. The FDA had two different acting commissioners, Norman Sharpless and Brett Giroir, before Hahn took the post.
