Providers have another 90 days of regulatory relief. Departing HHS Secretary Alex Azar extended the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) for a fourth time for another 90 days, effective Jan. 21. Azar previously extended the PHE in April, July, and October. Reminder: The PHE allows for regulatory leniency and relaxed federal guidelines. This includes 1135 waivers and other flexibilities related to a myriad of Medicare policies from telehealth to lab tests to billing.
