With the latest COVID-19 variant ratcheting up the numbers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced new emergency guidance to deal with surges. Details: On Dec. 23, 2021, CDC released guidance for healthcare workers on self-isolation and quarantine, crisis management, and workforce shortages. “As the healthcare community prepares for an anticipated surge in patients due to Omicron, CDC is updating our recommendations to reflect what we know about infection and exposure in the context of vaccination and booster doses,” advises CDC Director Rochelle Wolensky, MD, in a release. “Our goal is to keep healthcare personnel and patients safe, and to address and prevent undue burden on our healthcare facilities. Our priority remains prevention — and I strongly encourage all healthcare personnel to get vaccinated and boosted.” Review the update, which includes links to the new advice, at https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s1223-emergency-guidance-prepare-for-omicron.html
