President Trump named Don Wright, MD, MPH as the interim secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services on Sept. 29. Dr. Wright, a 10-year veteran at HHS, has been the acting assistant secretary in the Department since February. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the American people and the Administration in this role,” said Dr. Wright in an HHS release. “I look forward to ensuring that the important work of the Department in support of the President’s agenda continues to move forward during this interim period.” Secretary Tom Price resigned amidst scandal after several news outlets reported he used chartered flights for HHS business, racking up over $400,000 in debt.
