As the opioid epidemic continues to plague the nation, CMS issued new guidelines for Part D prescribers with a policy start date on Jan. 1, 2019. The new Medicare guidance looks specifically at overutilization offering advice on care coordination, time-limits on prescriptions, and drug management. The policies are provider-specific and aim to decrease fraud and increase beneficiary safety.
