If you thought the feds might slow down their enforcement activity as providers struggle with COVID-19, you’d be wrong. In fact, it looks like they’re ramping up for more investigations.

Now: The HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) added 25 new items to its Work Plan for May. The additions run the investigation gamut with several specifically targeting Medicare providers. Of the 15 items that address Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issues, standouts on the federal watchdog’s checklist include: inpatient upcoding issues; cybersecurity and management of medical devices in hospitals and the perennial problem of nursing facility staffing shortages.

In total, OIG currently lists 246 active items on the Work Plan.
