It looks like radiology practices have something to smile about. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will be paying a little bit more of their fee schedule amounts in relation to the procedural component (PC) with new changes to its Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction (MPPR) system.
“Effective January 1, 2017, MACs shall pay 95 percent of the fee schedule amount for the PC of each additional procedure furnished by the same physician (or physician in the same group practice) to the same patient, in the same session on the same day,” according to MLN Matters® article CR9647. Currently, Medicare only pays 75 percent of each PC.
The technical component (TC) will not be affected, with its MPPR staying steady at 50 percent, according to the article.
