CMS Wants Your Feedback on a Stark Law Revamp

Last month, CMS published a Request For Information (RFI) on the physician self-referral law, also known as the Stark Law, in the Federal Register. The RFI follows the same path as other recent agency communications, looking specifically at ways to improve patient care while cutting down on provider administrative burden.

“We are looking for information and bold ideas on how to change the existing regulations to reduce provider burden and put patients in the driver’s seat,” said CMS Administrator Seema Verma in a fact sheet on the RFI. “Dealing with the burden of the physician self-referral law is one of our top priorities as we move towards a health care system that pays for value rather than volume.”

CMS is accepting commentary and ideas on revising and improving the Stark Law, keeping quality, value-based care in mind until August 24, 2018.
