Medicare providers will have lots of new options in their coding wheelhouse starting on Oct. 1, 2018, according to the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) release of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes. “These 2019 ICD-10-CM codes are to be used for discharges occurring from October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019 and for patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019,” says CMS. Practices can look forward to 279 new codes plus revisions to 143 codes and the deactivation of 51 codes. Resource: Review the changes at www.cdc.gov/nchs/icd/icd10cm.htm#FY 2019 release of ICD-10-CM.
