Azar Nominates HIV Expert to CDC Post

Last week, HHS Secretary Alex Azar named clinical researcher and HIV-expert Dr. Robert R. Redfield to head the CDC.

Redfield replaces Dr. Anne Schuchat as "the 18th Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry," noted an HHS release on the hire.

The MD, who's known as a public health advocate and former clinician at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, "engaged in clinical research and clinical care of chronic human viral infections and infectious diseases, especially HIV, for more than 30 years," the release said.
