CMS could face serious shortfall of enrollees But among people over 65, only 33 percent said they will sign up for the benefit, while a full 61 percent deemed themselves unlikely to enroll. Unless those numbers rise, sicker seniors may swamp the benefit, making risk-spreading impossible and ultimately raising premiums out of reach.
A new survey reveals that Americans know next to nothing about 2003's Medicare Modernization Act. Most senior voters also don't see themselves signing up for the MMA drug benefit, according to Republican pollster Linda DiVall, who surveyed over 1,000 voters in late November.
Among voters of all ages, 37 percent are aware of the drug benefit, while 62 percent are not. Of Medicare-eligible elders, 53 percent are aware of the benefit, while 44 percent are not.
Worse news for MMA champions: voters' answers when asked if they would sign up for drug coverage. Among all voters, 49 percent said they are likely to do so, and 45 percent who said they wouldn't.
